Here we have a beautiful acoustic song from the brutal Swedish death metallers, Opeth. From their mainly acoustic album Damnation, this soft lullaby is supremely soothing and mellow. For me the first simple notes from the bass guitar are the best part, there’s something elegantly powerful about the simplicity of it.

We’ve not had any prog for a while! So lets take a trip with Dream Theatre! Hell’s Kitchen has to be one of the best instrumentals ever. Ok, so it might not be as ‘proggy’ as it gets, but it’s just a nice song, you know? It has everything you could want from a Dream Theatre instrumental, some excellent musicianship, powerful melodies, complex rhythms and above all the ability to keep you hooked right the way through.
