A Great Tribute by a Great Musician

Alexander Brandon has to be one of my favourite musicians of all time. He was in my top artists of 2008, and to be honest he will probably be in my top artists every year! So I was delighted to find this free mp3 posted on his blog.
Like many people I discovered his music through the video game Deus Ex. I am pleased to say that this song retains a very similar feel to the music within Deus Ex. It’s very atmospheric, in a cyber-punk style, and creates a similar vibe to the music in the Deus Ex soundtrack.
However, as it’s intended for general release it’s a little more accessible. For example the tunes in Deus Ex on the whole are a little more ambient to fill in behind in-game sound effects and speach. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, it’s just it can give the songs an odd structure, with extended gaps in the music to make space for other sound in-game.
The Shell, according to Club Silicon, is a tribute to the Manga phenomenon Ghost in the Shell. In the words of Brandon I am ‘uninitiated’, so I cannot comment on this part of the songs existence. However, I get the feeling this is a very large influence for Alexander and must play a part in several of his pieces.
