Daily Rec: Man with the Red Face
Song: Man With the Red Face
By: Mark Knight
So I discovered this song on the annual House Mix Street Parade CD 2008. After trying to find out a bit more about the artist I found several versions of the song with variations of the title so I’m not really sure which is correct, so please tell me if you know!
Anyway what I do know is that I am in love with this song! The first time I heard it I nearly skipped, there was something about the sax that was just a little off. I don’t know why, I’m not sure it’s playing the wrong note, but it’s just a little off. However it does resolve nicely so that was ok.
Secondly, at the moment where it feels like everything should kick in and all hell would break loose, it doesn’t happen. I was expecting a barrage of bass, drums and synths to knock me over… But instead all I got was everything cutting out to leave just a simple beat, bass and subtle synths. But then I realised I was listening to the song in the wrong way! If this was a normal trance/club tune it’s success would have been limited – however as Deep House song this is perfection!
The subtle change in lead synth tune is amazing. The sound is so precise it’s unbelievable. The way everything cuts out to bring to the front the basic elements is also spot on… And the sax solo just grew on me more and more!
So if you’re a fan of house, or especially Deep House then this is a must for you!

The original piece is by Laurent Garnier and the title is the same - The Man With The Red Face. Greetings from cold Poland
Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up! So then this is a remix or a ‘cover’?
Greets from murky England!
Sounds like a remix for me. They (Mark Knight & Funkagenda) made it more house’y sounding. Check out Garniers track on youtube (really nice live version there)
As Duff said, original is from Laurent Garnier with the same title. First appeared on Unreasonable behaviour album and also later on Retrospective. Numerous mixes, edits and so one have been done, but the original is from Mr. Garnier
