Ahh, Biffy Clyro – once a sure-fire explosion of experimental post-hardcore madness! Now more of a stable mainstream rock group. I find it a shame, but I suppose nothing stays the same forever.
My comments are directed at ‘Puzzle’ as a whole, and I suppose might be a little unfair. I think my problem with the album is that it’s such a dramatic change of sound for the band. Of course, it’s unmistakeably them, but there’s just something different. I imagine if this album had been released by some one like the Foo Fighters I would be hailing it as a triumph, so you should probably ignore my complaints all together!
Anyway, enough complaining! Now I’m Everyone is a masterfully constructed, superbly epic song! I love the way the song builds to it’s powerful climax repeating the line “this is the one” over and over again. It kinda reminds me of their earlier song 57, which follows a similar structure. There’s even an almost over the top repetition of a feeble little guitar riff before the song fills out into the dramatic ending. Stunning!
As usual here’s the video to watch - there’s a load of silence at the end of this one, not sure why, but the actual song only lasts about 4 minutes.
