Recently I’ve been on a quest for Prog. I’ve been bored waiting for the delivery of my nest ‘Spock’s Beard’ album, so I went looking for something to fill the time. And what did I stumble across? IQ. Now this song is kinda prog… But to be honest it’s more late eighties/early nineties pop masquerading as prog. But that’s fine!
It begins with a beautiful mellow guitar solo (which incidentally was the sample I listened to and convinced me to buy the track). From there it becomes a wonderfully atmospheric epic, almost power-metal song.
I’m finding it hard to say why I like the song so much… Which I guess is a good thing. It’s just one I keep having to listen to again and again.
I’d say if you like Rush you’ll like this one, it’s sort of a heavier version of them (but maybe not quite as powerful). But very much worth checking out!
